I do not possess many degrees or work experience outside my Barber Shop for 23 years- which I closed during COVID. I possess a working knowledge of laws and statutes and life experience that has led me to this moment.
I am a big supporter of local animal rescues, and I have rescued too many cats to count. I also support State rescues as much as I can. I am very proud of my French/Italian heritage and grateful to my Italian grandparents and mother, who taught me to cook and garden… I do grow Italian Figs here in northern Michigan, dating back to the family farm of the 1940s.
I am running for office for one simple goal in mind and spirit: A return to COMMON SENSE GOVERNING.
All political power is inherent in the People; Article I, Sec 1 of the Michigan State Constitution states that government is instituted for their equal benefit, security, and protection. What does this mean?
BENEFIT— the equal benefit comes in many forms, whether it be education, finances, or to thrive and prosper. The current Lyon Township Board has taken away your rights to that benefit. Nothing is equal about a sewer system that places acreage above Your VOTE. The SAD was designed to exclude parcels that otherwise legally benefit but will not be assessed; thus, you will have to pay more for their benefit.
You are deprived of that fundamental right by paying more for someone else’s benefit. There is ‘nothing’ equal about a septic ordinance that mandates only parcels within the SAD are required to install high-performance tanks, violating the Zoning Enabling Act by re-zoning R-1 Residential Districts without following proper laws and denying your right to vote.
Required inspections on new systems already permitted by the CMDHD are taking away your money, which hinders your right to financial benefit.
The People should have a reasonable septic ordinance that does not violate the rights of private property owners.
SECURITY—Equal security takes many forms, but people have the right to feel secure in the knowledge that NO government entity will impose a burden so significant that they may have to sell their homes or be financially burdened.
We all work hard to build a secure foundation for our livelihood, and that security is in jeopardy with the current Lyon Township Administration.
PROTECTION—Equal protection means not just protecting our borders or our community with law enforcement—which is paramount to our freedoms—but also being protected from overreaching bodies of government that are more concerned about an agenda than ‘We the People’.
Our Michigan State Constitution and United States Constitution guarantee the people the right to Due Process concerning procedural requirements enacted by the State of Michigan. Protection is lost when elected officials choose to ignore those Constitutional guarantees.
I have spent my life reading law books like novels in pursuit of Truth and Justice. I am not an attorney, nor do I pretend to be one… but I know what I know, and that is all I know.
My main focus has always been Consumer Advocacy, and all those years pursuing Justice have prepared me to move forward in this endeavor.
Although running a Township is a business, and one could argue that we are the consumers- the current Board still needs to remember that you are real people with real concerns. They listen but do not hear your words. Many other issues need to be addressed by a new Lyon Township Board, including road end runoff, extensive water testing, adherence to the Master Plan, etc.
The needs of the People and Community must come before the needs of special interest groups or an agenda.
